Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his future after a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from management,” the coach commented.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
The manager lamented recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period like this with performances so bad.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
