Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence that his squad can keep managing with player absences after disclosing that attacker Kai Havertz remains out for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The Germany international has been sidelined since the summer following knee surgery. Initially expected to be available sooner, Arteta explained the player encountered a problem when advancing his rehabilitation and could not progress “the required stage.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a group that is far more dependable and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.

Tactical Decisions for Brentford Clash

This update creates a dilemma for Wednesday’s fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who found the net in an unfamiliar forward role on Sunday, or bringing back Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench off the bench. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus is available after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Persist

“We learned from the past that we must deploy players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to adapt to new tasks if we aim to challenge at the top. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the setback noted by Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, the manager gave further detail. “He followed all protocols. He could not go to the required step and now it’s looking like we have overcome that hurdle.”

The manager conveyed his personal desire to see him return. “The team is keen to have him. Truly, Havertz is someone that, personally, I admire greatly for what he brings to the team, but his personality, his nature. I see him suffer on the sidelines.”
