Both Deceased Students Revealed in the Providence Campus Attack as Authorities Persist in Hunt for Gunman.

The pair of scholars who lost their lives in the weekend's violent attack on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their assailant continued following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the sole person detained in connection in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, as stated by the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which honored her memory at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included second-in-command of Brown’s branch of the College Republicans organization, the group said. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted words of sorrow online, remarking: “There are no words. Keeping in mind her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.

The victim's identification was officially acknowledged by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Law enforcement reported on Sunday evening that a 24-year-old male arrested in a raid at a lodging about around 27 kilometers from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”

Public Fear

The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause fresh anxiety for our public”.

The assailant opened fire inside a lecture hall in the building on over the weekend, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm handgun, a police source reported to the media outlet.

Officers that entered the lodging seized two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was arrested, as was reported.

Those Hurt

Of the nine hurt, one pupil was discharged from care, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a independent school in Durham, North Carolina, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Further Tributes

Tributes were paid to Cook at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only here growing up... but at the university she was an incredible light in that institution as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “Ella was known for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she served her chapter and other students,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the student's death in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to Mr Umurzokov’s family, loved ones, and peers and mourn the loss of his potential.”

The weekend's murders at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US college with about over seven thousand undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, took place amid one of at least 392 mass shootings reported in the US so far in this year, according to data.
