Harris, 36, was stopped on 16 November at Naha airport, located on Okinawa, after a customs officer found 0.78 grams of a crystalline substance containing the designer drug MDMA in his personal bag, as stated by a official statement.

He was promptly taken into custody on suspicion of breaching Japan’s stringent Narcotics and Psychotropics Control Act.

Local customs officials filed a criminal accusation with the prosecutor’s office to initiate legal action against the playwright.

A law enforcement representative in Tomigusuku, Okinawa, confirmed that Harris remains in custody. The official did not elaborate on whether Harris has acknowledged the charges.
