Jurgen Klopp says rejoining to manage Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell featuring a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he told the podcast host: “I declared I will never coach another team within the country. Therefore in case it's my former club...yes. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, that means I might decide in a few years, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I can just see how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding what circumstances would have to unfold to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing during downpours for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the players enjoying conversation, is pleasant. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. The team has suffered four consecutive matches across various tournaments post heavy investment, though he denied the notion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. The French striker, excellent performer. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and the effect on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“How do you replace such an individual? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the dressing room missing him. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for his teammates as well. No one within the club will ever use it for poor performances though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Coping with it individually is not easy. Impossible.”
