Ukraine has announced the start of mass production for an innovative locally engineered defensive UAV to reinforce its aerial protection systems. The first three manufacturers have begun production, with an additional eleven getting ready to set up production lines, Ukrainian military officials stated this past Friday.

Advanced 'Octopus' System Proven in Battlefield Conditions

These UAVs utilize a domestically developed system called “Octopus” designed to intercept Iranian-made drones. The system underwent testing in combat and demonstrated successful “at night, under jamming and flying low,” the ministry confirmed. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy established a target of manufacturing as many as 1,000 interceptors daily.

Recent Assault on Kyiv Described as Deliberate

The Ukrainian president characterized Russia’s latest attack on Ukraine as “deliberate, calculated and brutal” after six individuals lost their lives and many others wounded in a series of nocturnal attacks throughout Kyiv. Air raid sirens activated in the capital shortly after midnight this past Friday, with enemy UAVs quickly heard overhead and intensive defensive fire from Ukrainian air defences.

Zelenskyy reported the country was targeted by 430 drones and 18 missiles. Those killed had been inside their residences in a block of flats on the capital's left bank during the strike. Dozens of other buildings sustained damage, including the Azerbaijani embassy.

International Objection Following Embassy Damage

The Azerbaijani government announced it issued a strong protest to the Russian ambassador this past Friday following the embassy damage. An explosion from a Moscow's missile demolished a section of the compound's boundary wall and resulted in serious damage to the embassy grounds, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry reported. No one injured, and an official representative confirmed the Kyiv embassy was maintaining operations.

Russian Glide Bomb Production Sees Significant Increase

Russia intends to produce as many as 120,000 glide bombs this year, a senior Ukrainian intelligence official said, among them 500 of a new, longer-range version that is capable of targeting more towns and cities. Russian forces have been launching 200 to 250 glide bombs per day, with last month’s average daily usage being approximately 170, based on official military statistics.

Ukrainian Attacks Focus on Russian Oil Facilities

Moscow's maritime terminal of Novorossiysk halted for a period oil exports this past Friday – representing 2% of worldwide oil production – after a strike by Ukrainian forces. Ukraine’s general staff stated its military had launched domestically produced missiles and deployed various types of strike drones in the assault against Novorossiysk “as part of efforts to diminish the strategic capabilities of the Russian aggressor.”

Ukraine separately struck an oil refinery in Russia’s Saratov region and an energy depot in the adjacent Engels region overnight.

International Sanctions Affect Russian Energy Company

The number two energy company Lukoil announced this past Friday it is negotiating with interested parties regarding its international holdings following last month’s restrictions from Western nations and the collapse of a deal with the Gunvor trading house. “Final arrangements are to be disclosed after the final agreements are completed and the necessary regulatory approvals are secured,” the company commented.

Zelenskyy Schedules Diplomatic Trip to Spanish Capital

The Ukrainian leader will visit the city of Madrid, the Spanish capital, on Tuesday to meet with lawmakers following his visit to Paris, Spanish parliamentary officials announced. Zelenskyy will convene with representatives from both chambers of the legislature during his visit, an official announcement said.
